Radisson set to open a new 100-room hotel in Cannes La Bocca

Radisson Hotels announced in September that they’ll be expanding in a major way in France this year. With openings in Paris, Charles de Gaulle airport and Bourges, the property I’m most interested in is their opening in Cannes La Bocca slated for this year. The Radisson Hotel Cannes Seaside is a 100-room property that will offer direct beach access and an outdoor pool, plus sea views from most rooms.

Morgan Lewis reported that the hotel in question is the former Luxotel, which is actually in a great position right where the pedestrian bridge connects La Bocca to the beach. Since I spent all of December and half of January in Cannes, and walked along the beachfront in La Bocca almost every day, I walked right past this building many times. It’s technically a few blocks back from the beach, but almost as close as you can get in the area. If you’re familiar with the city at all, it’s just across from the Marcacana Plage and about a mile down from the Canopy by Hilton Cannes.

For those who aren’t as familiar, La Bocca is an older, more suburban neighborhood in Cannes that’s set back from La Croisette and central town a ways. This could be a blessing or a curse, depending on what you’re looking for in a hotel. It’s far enough away from the center of town to have its own stop on the train, but of course there’s way fewer trains that stop here than at city center.

The property was acquired by Byron Gestion and will undergo a full renovation before it opens this year, but no further timeline was given. They mention that some rooms have balconies and again, most have sea views, which is practically a must for successful hotels in Cannes. I’m cautiously optimistic that due to the location and brand this will be a relatively affordable option in the area that still gets you close to central Cannes and has proximity to the beach.
